June 13, 2022Top Three Color Tips from Painters in Cleveland
Are you having difficulty picking the right paint color for your house? In this blog, I will share advice for choosing paint colors. I won’t tell you what color you should pick, but I’ve looked at many homes and seen people’s colors.
Today, I am here to give you my top three tips when you’re going through picking the right paint colors by yourself.
1. Do not only search for paint colors on the internet.
I don’t recommend searching for paint colors on the internet using your phone or computer since the color might not be consistent. The colors won’t be accurate and may not represent the exact color. So, my first advice in choosing the paint colors is to personally go to a store to check the little one-by-one-inch square cards.
If you go to significant paint stores, you can pick up a whole color deck, and you could have about 2,000 colors that cost about $30 to $50. You might want to consider this, especially if you have a taste for picking colors. You can also keep and use the color chart for your next painting project.
2. Go one lighter than your original color choice.
My advice for choosing paint colors is to go one lighter than the original color you picked. Although you have a chart, you’re looking at it in person. The color might look different once you put it on. For instance, if you have a 12 by 8-foot wall, the color may look darker since you’re painting a more significant section.
It also depends on the lighting in your house, as the shadow could make it look darker. So before buying the color of your choice, you must first consider where you’re going to put it. If you plan to paint a big wall or darker room, this advice is a massive help. You already know what it would look like in the actual setting.
3. Always choose contrasting colors.
The last tip that I will tell you is to use contrasting colors. While this advice specifically goes for accent walls, it also applies to the whole house. Some people will use colors that don’t give the accent wall one or two shades darker than the primary wall color. Because of this, you won’t even notice the color difference due to a lack of contrast.
Sometimes, you can’t tell the shade is different because of lighting and shadowing. I had a client, and we touched up in the house. I didn’t notice that they had little nooks in the basement that were an accent color. Lighting is one of the things that gets overlooked when picking paint colors.
You couldn’t even spot the accent color unless you looked at the corners. I also checked the work order when we did the project, and there were two different colors. I didn’t even notice that because they were too close.
If you want to have two different colors, don’t go on to the shades that are similar or too close on the color chart. Your contrasting color may not stand out as you imagine, and you can’t tell whether they are different. Compare each color first, especially if you’re choosing accent colors.
