Many people use vinyl siding to avoid having to paint their homes. However, some can fade over time, resulting in a dull appearance. In today’s blog, we will talk about the problems you may encounter using vinyl and what you can do to avoid them.
You cannot use specific colors with vinyl sidings, mainly those with a black tint. The problem here is if you have a black tint in the paint, it will absorb too much heat. Eventually, the siding will start to warp and worsen as time passes.
It’s not good when it’s too hot because it gets pliable. Therefore, always look for vinyl-approved or vinyl-safe colors. You can find these in big paint stores, like Sherwin Williams and PPG paints. Pick the colors that are suitable for your vinyl sidings to avoid more problems in the future.
Go to your paint dealer and inform them that you are looking for a color for your vinyl-sided home. Ensure that you purchased the right one that will work for your house. Choosing the wrong color for your vinyl siding causes more problems down the road.
The second issue is similar to the first one, although it can happen with any color of vinyl siding. Since vinyl sidings are made up of actual pieces of vinyl, they shrink or expand when the temperature changes. This can cause issues where the siding overlaps.
You can see a little sliver or a little space of the old color that becomes exposed due to the contraction and expansion of the siding. There is also a possibility that darker colors have made things worse. The good thing is that there is a fix for that.
Get spacers or buttons to place wear the siding seams overlap before painting. Put spacers to open them up, so you can angle and get some paint in there when you spray. If you move them around in between coats, there won’t be a spot of the old color.
Remember, always use two coats on any project. None of these paints are made for one-coat coverage. If you did one coat with buttons or spacers, you have to move them and ensure you’re not adding a little space to that button or spacers.
