The main reason is we do many things differently from most painting companies. We only employ background checked people with no criminal offenses on their records for any interior projects. They are all fully insured under workman’s compensation, state, and federal unemployment insurance. We carry a million dollars in business liability insurance and send a copy of our certificate with your quote. So you and your property are covered by our many layers of coverage. Our company and employees also pay all the proper taxes, including social security, Medicare, federal, state, and local taxes. We pay overtime past 40 hours and drive time in company vehicles from the shop or project to project, which is required by law. I would estimate that less than 20% of painting contractors or painting companies do things the proper way. You can ask my employees yourself if you hire us for your project. These are some of the main reasons that our costs higher than others.
All of our workers clock in and out on a cell phone app so we can easily keep track of where everyone is during work hours. Job tracking also ensures we have only honest people working for us. All of our employees can access the work orders with pictures, so they know what is going on before they arrive to start your project. We have a bonus program where employees can earn bonuses for timeliness and quality, with the most substantial bonuses being able to be received for quality monthly. We have paid out monthly bonuses as much as weekly paychecks. We offer earned PTO up to 6 days a year for all employees.
A lot of painting companies only use subcontractors to cut all of these costs and evade payroll taxes. Why is this bad for you? Because the cheaper the products, equipment, and more corners they can cut, the more they maximize their profits. So if you choose to go this route, you should make sure that at least the materials used are listed on the contract and being used.
If a company is paying someone by the hour under 1099 status that payroll tax evasion if they are subcontracting the proper way, they pay a flat rate, and the subcontractor has to supply all the labor, tools, materials, and deal directly with the customer to set up the schedule. They also have to carry the insurances we mentioned above so you may want to see proof for their company, not just the company you hired.
We give very detailed quotes where we specify how many coats we are going to do on each surface. Just about every surface that we paint gets two layers. Two coats will make your project last longer. We include customer project guides with each quote. They explain a lot of details about how your project would go and what to expect from us when we show up. We try to be very detailed and have standard pricing based on measurements and the work required for each project.
